The paper titled “Midwives’ views towards women using mHealth and eHealth to self-monitor their pregnancy: A systematic review of the literature” published in 2020, has now been cited more than 40 times.
This paper highlights key challenges surrounding digital health, a core theme for MIHERC, and will contribute to our recently awarded NIHR funding aimed at tackling inequalities in UK maternal healthcare as part of the NIHR Challenge Call: Maternity Disparities Consortium. Two MIHERC members, Professors Vanora Hundley and Edwin van Teijlingen, are among the authors.
The study explores midwives’ mixed views on mobile and electronic health technologies used for pregnancy self-monitoring. While midwives recognise the potential of these tools to modernise antenatal care and empower women to make informed decisions, they also raise concerns about the accuracy of the information provided and the possible impact on the patient-professional relationship.
