Sands, the Stillbirth And Neonatal Death Society, has published its new strategy for 2026-2031, setting out its vision and priorities for the next five years.
The strategy is built around a clear mission: a world where fewer babies die. For those families who do experience the death of a baby, Sands is committed to ensuring they receive the best possible care and support for as long as it is needed.
Thousands of people from the Sands community across the UK contributed their views to shape the strategy, including bereaved parents, families, and healthcare professionals. The charity has thanked everyone who took the time to share their insights.
Key priorities in the new strategy include:
- Expanding research into safer and more equitable maternity care, with a focus on identifying risks earlier during pregnancy when there is time to act.
- Strengthening the Sands Parent Insights Network to ensure parent voices continue to shape the charity’s work.
- Addressing inequalities in pregnancy outcomes, particularly for families from ethnic minority backgrounds and deprived areas.
